Why Motivation Is The Least Important Factor For Weight Loss

One of the biggest hurdles to losing weight that I hear about from middle aged women is: I don’t have any motivation. Many of you strongly believe that if you felt more motivated, you would drop the extra weight easily.

The problem with this belief is that it’s not motivation that gets you to the finish line. It’s something else entirely.

Don’t get me wrong, motivation does play a role in your weight loss journey, but it’s the least important factor for sustainable success. If you rely solely on motivation to accomplish your weight loss goals, you won’t reach them.

Weight Loss Motivation: What part does it play?

Motivation is the general desire and willingness to get started on something. It gets you pumped and excited and ready to take on a new challenge, but it’s not what keeps you on the path to weight loss success. That’s because motivation is based on feelings and if you’re anything like me, you know that your feelings go up and down at the drop of a hat.

If you rely on your feelings of motivation on the days when you don’t feel like it, you’re going to go off track. That pattern can’t sustain you in the long run.

Weight Loss Motivation: Is it the most important factor for weight loss?

By now, you’re probably thinking: So, if it’s not motivation that I need to reach my weight loss goals, what do I need?
